There's something genuinely special about a used Triumph. Whether it's the timeless appeal of a Bonneville, the razor-sharp aggression of a Speed Triple, or the boundary-blurring ability of a Tiger. Triumph builds motorcycles that feel just as exciting on their hundredth mile as they do on their first. At Blade Triumph in Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon, we stock a carefully selected range of pre-owned Triumphs, every one inspected by our trained technicians and backed by our commitment to quality. This guide will help you understand the benefits of going used, what to look for, which models to consider, and why buying through Blade gives you peace of mind that the private market simply can't match.
Browse Our Used Triumph StockNew motorcycles start to depreciate the moment they leave a showroom. A well-chosen used Triumph lets you sidestep that steepest drop in value and get far more motorcycle for your budget. In practical terms, that might mean stepping up to a higher-spec model or trim level you'd otherwise be stretching for new.
The used market opens up the entire breadth of Triumph's history; including models no longer in current production. Looking for a Tiger 800 before the move to the 900 platform? A first-generation Street Triple with its distinctive three-cylinder character? A pre-facelift Thruxton with wire wheels and all the café racer drama? The used market has you covered.
Many used Triumphs arrive with genuine accessories or quality aftermarket parts already fitted; touring screens, luggage systems, comfort seats, performance exhausts. These are upgrades the previous owner invested in; you benefit without the additional outlay. It's not unusual for a used bike to represent considerably better real-world value than its sticker price suggests.
Triumph's range spans everything from classic-inspired roadsters to full-fat adventure tourers. Here's a guide to the models most commonly found on the used market, and what each one does best.
Whether you're buying from a dealer or privately, these are the checks that matter.
An HPI check is the UK equivalent of a full vehicle history report. It will confirm whether the bike has outstanding finance attached to it, has ever been written off, has been stolen and recovered, or has a mileage discrepancy. This is a non-negotiable step when buying from a private seller. When you buy a used Triumph through Blade, we handle this as standard, you'll know exactly what you're getting.
A stamped service book or digital dealer service records tells you whether the previous owner maintained the bike properly. Look for services at or near the correct intervals. Gaps in the history aren't automatically a dealbreaker, but they should prompt further questions. Bikes with full main-dealer service histories will typically command a small premium, and it's a premium worth paying.
Run the engine from cold so you can hear it fire up without any prior warming. Listen for any unusual ticking or rumbling. Check the coolant level, oil level, and look underneath for any signs of leaks. Inspect the chain for stretch and correct tension, and check both brake pads for remaining thickness. On liquid-cooled models, ensure the coolant is clean and not discoloured, milky coolant can indicate a head gasket concern.
Minor scratches on footpeg feelers or handlebar ends are normal signs of use. More significant damage, cracked fairings, scraped exhaust cans, bent levers may suggest the bike has been dropped. This isn't always a problem if the damage is superficial and priced accordingly, but it's worth factoring into your negotiation. Pay particular attention to the frame, forks, and swingarm for any signs of repair or straightening.
Before committing, spend time researching asking prices for comparable bikes on sites like Auto Trader, MCN Bikes for Sale, and Bike Trader. This gives you a realistic sense of whether the price you're being quoted is fair, and provides a solid foundation for negotiation if needed. Adjust your expectations for mileage, age, and specification, a low-mileage, well-specced example will always command more than a high-mileage equivalent.
Some used Triumphs will still be within their original two-year manufacturer warranty, or may have had the warranty extended. This is worth factoring into your assessment of value. At Blade Triumph, our used stock is checked and presented with full transparency on warranty status and we can advise on extended warranty options where applicable.
There are plenty of places to find a used motorcycle. What Blade Triumph offers is confidence the knowledge that every bike on our forecourt in Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon has been prepared and inspected by Triumph-trained technicians who know these machines inside and out.
We're not just a used bike lot. We're an authorised Triumph dealership with the expertise, facilities, and genuine parts to make sure what you ride away on is ready for the road. Spreading the cost of your next bike is straightforward with Blade Triumph's finance options.
Hire Purchase is the most straightforward way to finance a used motorcycle. You agree a deposit and fixed monthly repayments over a set term , typically 12 to 60 months and the bike is yours outright once the final payment is made. HP suits riders who want clear ownership from day one and prefer predictable monthly costs with no mileage limits to worry about.
PCP offers lower monthly payments than HP by deferring a portion of the cost to the end of the agreement as a final balloon payment. At the end of the term you can pay the balloon to own the bike outright, part-exchange into something new, or simply hand the bike back with nothing further to pay. PCP works well if you like the flexibility of regular upgrades and prefer to keep monthly costs down.
Our team can walk you through the options available on any bike in our used stock and help you find a solution that fits your budget and circumstances. Finance is subject to status and terms and conditions apply. We're authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Rates and representative examples are available in-dealership and on request.
Finding the perfect pre-owned motorcycle depends on your riding style, your commute, and where you want the road to take you. To help you narrow down your search, here is a breakdown of the five core Triumph families we reguarly have in our current stock.
Triumph's service intervals are clearly set out in your owner's manual and vary by model and year. Staying on top of these, oil and filter changes, valve clearance checks, brake fluid replacement, coolant changes, keeps the engine in good health and protects your used bike's resale value further down the line. Blade Triumph's service department can handle all Triumph warranty and non-warranty servicing at both our Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon sites.
Your chain and tyres are your most direct connection to the road, keep them in good order. Clean and lubricate the chain every 500 miles or after wet rides, check tension regularly, and replace when wear indicators show it's time. For tyres, check pressures weekly (cold) and inspect the tread and sidewalls for damage. Never ride on a tyre below the legal 1mm minimum tread depth, the stopping distance difference is significant and the legal consequences worse.
If you're putting your Triumph away for the winter months, a little preparation goes a long way. Fill the tank to avoid condensation, add a fuel stabiliser if it'll be standing for more than a few weeks, and connect a trickle charger to maintain the battery. A quality cover keeps moisture and debris off the bodywork. A bike that's been properly laid up is far easier to bring back to life in spring than one that's been neglected.

Blade Motor Cycles Limited an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No. 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Blade Motor Cycles Limited to act as a credit broker, not a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders, and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.
We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a carefully selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. We act on behalf of the lender for this introduction and not as your agent. We are not impartial, and we are not an independent financial advisor.
Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next most suitable offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure a suitable finance agreement for you that enables you to achieve your financial objectives. If you purchase a vehicle, in the majority of cases, we will receive a commission from your lender for introducing you to them which is either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you purchase.
Different lenders pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement; however, you will be contributing towards the commission paid to us with the interest collected on your repayments. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will inform you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receive this commission. The exact amount of commission that we will receive will be confirmed prior to you signing your finance agreement.
All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18s or over. Guarantees may be required.
