THE NEW TRIUMPH SCRAMBLER 400 XC

More than a style exercise, the Scrambler 400 XC brings spoked wheels, long-travel suspension designed for mixed road and trail use and a suite of trail-ready kit to Triumph's acclaimed 400cc platform. A2-licence eligible, designed by Triumph in Hinckley and manufactured for global markets through Triumph's international production network, available now at Blade Triumph from £6,545 OTR.

What is the Scrambler 400 XC?

When Triumph launched the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X in 2024, the reception was clear: here was a lightweight, characterful 400cc single that could hold its own against far more expensive machinery. The one question that kept coming up was whether Triumph would give the Scrambler proper off-road credentials to match the looks. The Scrambler 400 XC is the answer to that question.

Where the 400 X leans into scrambler style, the XC is built around scrambler substance. Side-laced spoked wheels, dual-purpose Metzeler Karoo Street tyres, uprated suspension travel, a high front mudguard, flyscreen, handguards, engine bars and an aluminium sump guard all come as standard, this is not a trim-level upgrade. It is a motorcycle that can confidently leave the tarmac.

At the same time, it remains completely at home in town, on A-roads, and on weekend runs through the Cotswolds. The 398cc TR-series single is smooth, refined and flexible. The kerb weight sits at around 186kg. And because it produces 39.5bhp, it is fully A2 licence eligible without any restrictor fitted, making it a serious option for riders working towards their full licence, as well as experienced riders who simply want a lighter, more nimble machine.

KEY FEATURES

Triumph Scrambler 400 XC 43mm USD forks and spoked wheels

SUSPENSION AND WHEELS BUILT FOR THE TRAIL

The XC steps up to 43mm big-piston upside-down forks at the front, with a piggyback rear monoshock, both offering 150mm of travel. That is a meaningful increase over most competitors at this price point and translates directly into composure over broken ground and comfort on long road sections.

The 19-inch front and 17-inch rear side-laced spoked wheels come wrapped in tubeless Metzeler Karoo Street tyres, a dual-purpose compound that grips on loose surfaces without sacrificing confidence in the wet on road. The lightweight aluminium rims keep unsprung weight in check, which riders will notice in how easily the bike changes direction.

PROTECTION AND RIDER TECHNOLOGY

Every XC leaves the factory with a solid aluminium sump guard, lower engine bars, high-mounted colour-coded front mudguard, flyscreen and handguards. These are not optional accessories, they are standard equipment that means the bike is genuinely ready to venture beyond the tarmac on the day you collect it.

On the electronics side, the XC carries switchable traction control and, crucially, ABS brakes. In that mode, rear ABS is deactivated, giving riders the ability to brake and slide the rear wheel on loose surfaces with confidence. On the road, Bosch cornering-optimised ABS remains fully active. A 320mm front disc with four-piston radial caliper provides strong, progressive stopping power in any condition.

THE TR-SERIES ENGINE

The 398cc single-cylinder TR-series unit that powers the entire 400 range is well proven. With 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, it is not trying to be a powerhouse, instead it delivers flexible, friendly performance that works well both in traffic and out on open roads. A counter-rotating balance shaft keeps vibration impressively smooth for a single-cylinder engine of this size.

Ride-by-wire throttle and Bosch engine management keep fuelling consistent in all conditions, while a six-speed gearbox with torque-assist clutch makes for light lever effort and clean downshifts. The stainless twin-skin header feeds into a stainless twin-outlet silencer that gives the XC a genuinely satisfying sound, something that matters on a bike like this.

Blade Motor Cycles Limited an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No. 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Blade Motor Cycles Limited to act as a credit broker, not a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders, and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a carefully selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. We act on behalf of the lender for this introduction and not as your agent. We are not impartial, and we are not an independent financial advisor.

Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next most suitable offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure a suitable finance agreement for you that enables you to achieve your financial objectives. If you purchase a vehicle, in the majority of cases, we will receive a commission from your lender for introducing you to them which is either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you purchase.

Different lenders pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement; however, you will be contributing towards the commission paid to us with the interest collected on your repayments. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will inform you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receive this commission. The exact amount of commission that we will receive will be confirmed prior to you signing your finance agreement.
