2026 Ducati DesertX V2

New Engine. Lighter Build. Available Now.

Ducati has rebuilt the DesertX from the ground up for 2026. The old 937cc desmodromic engine is gone, replaced by the new 890cc Ducati V2. The lightest four-valve twin Ducati has ever built. The steel trellis frame has been swapped for a cast aluminium monocoque. The 18-litre fuel tank is slimmer and made from polymer instead of metal. Everything has been reexamined with one goal in mind: a more capable adventure bike that works as well off-road as it does on it.

The DesertX V2 is arriving at Ducati Oxford right now, with a special launch price of £14,995 OTR for orders placed by 30 June 2026. Stock is limited — if you've been waiting for the right moment, this is it.

What Is the 2026 DesertX V2?

The original DesertX arrived in 2022 as Ducati's most serious attempt yet at building a genuinely capable adventure bike — not just a road bike with knobbly tyres, but something you could ride to work on Monday and take down a forest track on Saturday. It got plenty right, and sold well. But the 937cc desmodromic engine, however impressive on tarmac, was an inherited unit rather than one designed with off-road performance as a priority.

For 2026, that changes. The new 890cc Ducati V2 engine is shared with the updated Monster V2 and Hypermotard V2 families, but tuned specifically for the DesertX. It uses a conventional valve train with intake variable valve timing in place of desmodromic actuation — simpler, lighter, and with a broader, more tractable power delivery. The gear ratios have been tailored too: first through fourth are shorter for precise low-speed control on technical terrain, sixth is longer for relaxed cruising on the motorway. Seventy percent of peak torque is available from just 3,000 rpm. That matters enormously when you're maintaining traction on loose or uneven ground.

The chassis is equally new. A cast aluminium monocoque replaces the old steel trellis, and doubles as the airbox — a piece of engineering that saves both weight and space. Total wet weight without fuel comes in at 209 kg, which is a genuine achievement for a bike with a 21-inch front wheel and 230 mm of travel at each end. This is a machine that feels lighter to ride than its numbers suggest, and lighter to ride than its predecessor.

Three Things That Make the DesertX V2 Stand Apart

The Lightest Four-Valve V-Twin Ducati Has Produced

The 890cc Ducati V2 is a 90-degree twin with four valves per cylinder, liquid cooling, and an intake variable valve timing system. It produces 110 hp at 9,000 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. On paper those numbers are competitive with anything in the class. On the road — or the trail — what makes this engine stand out is its character at low revs. With 70% of peak torque on tap from 3,000 rpm, you have the tractability to pick through loose ground or negotiate steep climbs at walking pace without constantly slipping the clutch to avoid stalling.

This is also the lightest four-valve twin-cylinder engine Ducati has ever built. Every gramme saved at the centre of the bike pays dividends in handling, particularly off-road where inertia is your enemy.

Fully Adjustable KYB Suspension at Both Ends

Front suspension is a 46 mm KYB upside-down fork with full independent adjustment on each leg — compression and rebound settable separately — and 230 mm of wheel travel. At the rear, a fully adjustable KYB monoshock works with a progressive linkage to improve comfort and traction across a wide range of surfaces. Remote preload adjustment means you can dial in the rear without tools, useful when the road turns to gravel and you want to soften things off mid-ride. Rear wheel travel is 220 mm.

The 21-inch front and 18-inch tubeless spoked rear wheels are carried over from the previous model — and rightly so. They're fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres as standard (90/90-21 front, 150/70-18 rear), which tells you exactly what Ducati intends this bike to be capable of.

Six Riding Modes and a Comprehensive Electronics Package

The DesertX V2 offers six riding modes: Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro and Rally. Each is customisable — you can adjust throttle response and the behaviour of the rider aids independently to suit whatever you're riding on. The electronics suite includes Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC). In Rally mode, the intervention levels are dialled back to let experienced riders work the bike harder on loose surfaces; in Urban or Wet, the aids keep everything in check on greasy British roads.

For braking, Ducati has fitted Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers — race-derived hardware — working with 305 mm discs at the front. It's a specification that sits well above what you'd normally find at this price point.

DesertX Discovery: Ready to Go Further

For riders who want to head out on longer trips without spending weeks sourcing accessories individually, the DesertX Discovery handles it. Priced at £17,295, the Discovery comes fully equipped with everything you need to travel: aluminium side panniers, a touring windscreen, heated grips, central stand, engine guard plate, water pump protection, radiator protection grid, and reinforced handguards. The Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) with turn-by-turn navigation via a smartphone app is also included.

An optional 8-litre auxiliary fuel tank can be fitted in the tail section, extending total capacity to 26 litres. On a bike that's genuinely competent off-road, that kind of range opens up routes that most adventure bikes can only flirt with. We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a carefully selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. We act on behalf of the lender for this introduction and not as your agent. We are not impartial, and we are not an independent financial advisor.

Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next most suitable offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure a suitable finance agreement for you that enables you to achieve your financial objectives. If you purchase a vehicle, in the majority of cases, we will receive a commission from your lender for introducing you to them which is either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you purchase.

Different lenders pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement; however, you will be contributing towards the commission paid to us with the interest collected on your repayments. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will inform you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receive this commission. The exact amount of commission that we will receive will be confirmed prior to you signing your finance agreement.
