The Milwaukee-Eight 117 Gets Smarter: Variable Valve Timing Arrives
Harley-Davidson has been refining the Milwaukee-Eight family since its debut, and for 2026 the engineers have made their boldest move yet — Variable Valve Timing (VVT) is now being rolled out across a significantly wider range of Touring and Trike models.
In practice, VVT means the engine adjusts when its intake and exhaust valves open and close depending on how hard you're riding. The result: better low-speed torque for pulling away in traffic or cruising at a relaxed pace, stronger mid-range response when the road opens up, and meaningfully improved fuel efficiency throughout. The 117 cubic inch (1,923cc) displacement was already a formidable powerplant — with VVT, the 2026 version moves the game on further.

One of the most common questions we get from newer riders is whether Harley-Davidson has anything suitable for an A2 licence holder.
